Level 2 Agricultural & Horticultural Science

This course continues on from horticultural skills developed at level one, the agribusiness sector in NZ and the science that supports it. Major topics include: Soil science – Adding organic matter and the importance of humus, soil management practices; Plant Husbandry – plant cultivation and propagation, protection and training, maintenance of plant health; Environmental impact of dairy farming in the Waikato – the effect on soil, water, air and living organisms; Agribusiness – alternatives to meat consumption and future proofing the sector; Amenity horticulture – landscape plans and design, use of bedding plants, ornamental vegetables and herbs to create potager gardens.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
$60. Includes $30 towards seed cost in which all produce grown by students is theirs to take home. Also $30 towards a field trip to an organic dairy farm in Waitetuna (RD1 Raglan)
