The Year 9 Mathematics Programme utilises the Achievement Objectives set at Levels 3 to 5 of The New Zealand Curriculum, building on work already achieved at intermediate school level. Running through the course are the key competencies: thinking, using language, symbols and texts, managing self, relating to others, participating and contributing.
Asttle Testing is done in Years 8 (Orientation Day) and 9 to identify what curriculum levels students are at, and then used to develop programmes that address learning gaps in each class.
The course develops students' Number, Measurement, Algebra, Geometry, Statistics and Probability skills.
Students will be encouraged to develop their numeracy skills by being introduced to, and engaging with a range of mathematical problems. Students will have opportunities to develop their thinking skills; understanding of language, symbols and texts; self management; ability to relate to others and participate and contribute with the issue affecting the world around them.
