The 'Job Creation' - JC Pathway

← Home

Each year a small group of students  who are entering Year 11 are identified and invited to join our JC Pathway. These students would find it challenging to see success in some elements of the mainstream programme, this is an alternative, more vocationally driven programme. The programme spans 2 years and offers a more personalised learning pathway with a greater focus on vocational learning, it still leads to NCEA L1 and L2. Once students start on this pathway they will stay on it until they leave St John’s College at the end of Year 12, moving from 11JC to 12JC and then ideally on to tertiary training, apprenticeship, or job opportunities. This year many of our 12JC students gained their NCEA Level 2 before July and have left the college to take advantage of Wintec, and other provider's, mid year admissions - effectively putting them 6 months ahead of the rest of their cohort.

Academic provision in school is blended with access to STAR funded courses which give students the opportunity to undertake work related learning and gain relevant experience for the workplace. This leads into a more formal work experience placement that students undertake in Year 12 via the Gateway programme.

Please note - students invited to the 11JC programme should not enter anything on SchoolPoint, the Year 11 dean sits down with each student to discuss options to ensure that we course correctly.

Likewise, the Year 11 dean will talk with those students already on the JC programme as to what their option choices are for Year 12.
